Hermann's tortoise (Testudo hermanni hermanni) as a prey species for birds in its natural habitat

Abstract

The discovery of bird predation on a Hermann's tortoise in the south of France is described. It was clearly preyed by birds of the family Corvidae. Comparisons with bird predations on Gopherus agassizii are made and the role of human factors in increasing the numbers of birds is discussed.
