Basic considerations for growing food plants for terrestrial tortoises

Abstract

Although more and more information concerning feeding tortoises in captivity is available, a few questions still exist that are not being sufficiently answered in the media. Especially the composition and pH-value of soil are main factors when cultivating edible plants for feeding purpose. This article explains the main differences between acid and basic soil and also describes how and when to sow and dry food plants. The nutritional value of several types of food plants has been analysed by the author and is described in this article as well.
