Keeping the Red-Eared Slider (Trachemys scripta elegans) in garden ponds in The Netherlands – analysing peoples' experiences

Abstract

By way of interviews, I tried to find out how Trachemys scripta elegans keepers care for their turtles in garden ponds in The Netherlands. The questions requested information about size and form of the ponds, group sizes and sexes, food, breeding, overwintering, as well as problems and their solutions. One outcome is that red-eared sliders apparently do not tolerate hibernating in the pond without technical support.
