Constructing a turtle pond
Abstract
The use of ponds manufactured from fibreglass for the outdoor maintenance of
freshwater turtles is described. These ponds are easy to handle but their steep
banks and smooth surface is usually inadequate for turtles because they will be
unable to climb safely out of the water. Therefore, a detailed description how to
blanket the inner side of the pond with a layer of coconut fibres is provided. This
helps to overcome these problems, allowing the turtles to climb out of the water
easily, and to rest and bask on land.
