The Striped Mud Turtle, Kinosternon baurii in the Florida Keys

Abstract

The author has travelled to the Florida Keys many times over many decades in search of the Striped Mud Turtle, Kinosternon baurii on the islands. He remarks on the taxonomic status and describes the different morphology of the specimens from the mainland and the southern Keys that he can easily distinguish. This is illustrated with many pictures of different individuals. The habitats of the Keys are described and information on the survival of the turtles in a harsh environment is given.
