Behandlung einer schweren Panzerfraktur bei einer griechischen Landschildkröte (Testudo hermanni boettgeri)
Treatment of a major shell fracture in a Greek tortoise, Testudo hermanni boettgeri
Abstract
The closure of an 8 cm long fracture through the left part of carapace spanning
from the upper anterior corner of pleural scute 3 down to marginal scute 9 in an
adult male of
Testudo hermanni boettgeri is described. Following the
exclusion of internal injuries by radiological examination, the wound was
disinfected with propolis dissolved in 70 % ethanol. After disinfection, wooden
plates were glued onto the carapace at each side of the fracture. The plates
were connected by a screw (forming a screw clamp) and both sides of the
fractured shell were drawn together until the wound was closed. The fracture was
again treated with propolis and sealed with beeswax. Eight weeks later the wound
was healed up without further complications.
