Die Suche nach goldenen Klappschildkröte
The Search for The Golden Mud Turtle
Abstract
When I found the first extraordinary pale striped mud turtle,
Kinosternon
baurii, in the Everglades of Florida, unfortunately I did not examine it
closely, but in the following years I searched for more of these color morphs
and actually found them. In this article I show photos of specimens with
extraordinary colors, such as reticulated head patterns, multiple head stripes,
extreme pale carapaces, orange eyes, and intermediate forms. All turtles were
found in the same population, but hatchlings seem to have normal coloration.
