Köhlerschildkröten – billige Massenware oder vom Aussterben bedroht?
Red-footed tortoises – cheap bulk article or endangered species?
Abstract
In this article we investigate the numbers of
Chelonoidis carbonaria in
the international animal trade. Even though the tortoise is considered to be
endangered, export quotas of wild caught specimens have not been examined for
many years. We denounce inadequate controls of quotas, as well as farming and
ranching practices by evaluating the official CITES statistical data.
We present data and arguments that provide evidence of inadequate controls of
quotas, as well as farming and ranching practices, based on the official CITES
statistical data.
